Users can buy and stream audiobooks and other types of spoken word content through the American online audiobook and podcast service Audible. This content can be bought separately or as part of a subscription plan that grants access to a carefully curated on-demand library of content in exchange for monthly "credits" that can be redeemed for content. The biggest distributor and seller of audiobooks in the US is called Audible. The provider of the service is Audible, a fully-owned subsidiary of Newark, New Jersey-based Amazon.com, Inc.

More than 200,000 audio programs from audiobook publishers, broadcasters, performers, magazine and newspaper publishers, and sources of business information are available on Audible.Books of all genres, radio programs (both old and new), lectures, interviews, stand-up comedy, and audio editions of publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are all included in the content.

"Audible Gold" and "Audible Platinum," two monthly subscription tiers offered by the service, were priced at US$14.95 and $22.95 respectively: Users of both services can earn credits to spend toward the purchase of audio books (one full credit for Gold and two full credits for Platinum), with Platinum offering extra incentives including special discounts. On August 24, 2020, Audible discontinued both plans in favor of "Audible Premium Plus," which is essentially Gold with Platinum price and credits grandfathered in for current members. Additionally, Audible unveiled "Audible Plus," a new $7.95 monthly tier. The Audible Plus tier does not come with credits, but both offer access to a carefully curated on-demand library of audiobooks, podcasts, and other original works.

Once a consumer has paid for a title, it stays in their library and is always available for download or streaming. Credits issued before April 1, 2019, expire two years after they are issued. As of that date, credits expire after one year.
